Dr. Jary Larsen is a licensed neuropsychologist based in San Francisco, CA, with deep personal and professional ties to the GRN-FTD community. He is affiliated with the Neuropsychology Service at UCSF/Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and the Cognitive Neuropsychology and Electrophysiology Lab at VA Northern California. He has chaired the VA’s Institutional Review Board since 2012.
Jary’s family has been significantly impacted by GRN-FTD across generations. His father, uncle, brother, and sister all lived with the disease, and he has recently connected with extended family in Denmark who share the same genetic mutation. This personal connection has fueled his long-standing commitment to research, advocacy, and support for others affected by GRN-FTD.
He served on the Board of Directors for the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) from 2010–2017 and again from 2019–2025. He was also President of the FTD Disorders Registry from 2016–2019. In all of these roles, Jary has worked to expand the understanding of FTD and improve resources for patients and families.
Jary remains a strong supporter of CureGRN and values the strength and collaboration of the GRN-FTD community. His ongoing work bridges clinical science and advocacy, helping to shape the future of research and care in FTD.
